SMART SINDARA AND THE PUFF-PUFF PROMISE
Smart Sindara loved puff-puff more than almost any other snack in the world. The soft, round, golden-brown sweetness made her heart dance. She loved how it smelled like warm hugs and tasted like tiny clouds dipped in joy. And on one bright Saturday morning, Mama made puff-puff — fresh, hot, and plenty.

Sindara rushed into the kitchen like a butterfly flying to a flower.
“Mama! I want puff-puff now now now!” she sang, bouncing on her toes.
Mama laughed, wiping flour off her cheek.
“You may have some — but remember, the big batch won’t be ready for another two hours. If you wait, you will get even more puff-puff, warm and extra fluffy. If you eat everything now, there’ll be none for later. The choice is yours.”
Sindara blinked. Two whole hours? That felt like forever and two moons. She imagined waiting… smelling puff-puff… hearing it sizzle… and not eating it? Impossible!
She took a small piece, warm and delicious. Just one.
But then she saw the bowl… round, full, tempting.
Her mind whispered, Finish it now!
Her heart whispered back, Wait… more later.

She took one deep breath through her nose like Mama taught her — in, out, calm. Her tummy still grumbled, but she decided to wait. If she could.
To distract herself, she went outside.
First, she visited Grandma Titi’s garden, where tomatoes glowed like mini suns and pepper plants danced in the wind.
“Sindara,” Grandma said, “street children used to wait for ripe fruit. If they plucked too early, the fruit was bitter. Patience makes sweetness.”
Sindara nodded. More puff-puff later, she reminded herself.
Next, she helped her best friend Buchi build a tall block tower. It wobbled like a toddler learning to walk. Buchi wanted to rush and finish, but Sindara told him what Grandma said —
“Patience makes sweetness. Or in our case, tall towers!”
Slowly carefully gently…
Block after block…
Tower stood tall.
Buchi cheered!
Sindara smiled. She felt proud — not for eating puff-puff, but for waiting, and for building something instead of rushing.

Later, she skipped to the kitchen to check the time. One hour left. One very long hour.
Her nose twitched as the sweet smell floated through the house like a soft invitation, like, Come and eat… just one more…
She hugged herself and whispered,
“I can do hard things.”
She danced. She read her book. She even helped Mama sieve flour for the next batch.
Finally — like sunrise after night — the timer rang Ting!
Mama smiled at Sindara.
“You waited. I am proud of you. Because you waited, you get not one… not two… but five big puff-puffs. Fresh. Hot. Soft.”
Sindara gasped.
Five puff-puffs! She almost floated.
Mama placed them before her like treasure — golden, round, shining with sugar like stars. Sindara took a slow bite, and it tasted better than any puff-puff she had ever eaten. Not just sweet — victoriously sweet.
Buchi ran in too, and Sindara shared one with him because waiting had made her heart feel wide and generous.
“I thought waiting would be terrible,” Sindara said with a puff-puff smile.
“But it made everything better.”

Mama kissed her forehead.
“That is the magic of delayed gratification. When we wait for good things, the good becomes greater.”
Sindara snuggled into bed that night, tummy warm, heart fuller than her plate.
Tomorrow, there would be more puff-puff.
But tonight, she had earned her sweetest dream.
