Smart Sindara and the Secret of the Safe Screen

Smart Sindara loved learning new things. Every afternoon after homework, she would hop onto her tablet to watch science videos, listen to fun songs, and chat with her friends from school. The internet was like a giant library mixed with a playground — and she was always ready to explore. She had her device for only 1 hour each day.
One sunny Saturday, Sindara’s teacher gave the class a new online project: create a digital poster about your favorite invention. “Use the internet to research,” said Ms. Bello, “but remember — be safe online!”
Sindara knew a lot about science, but internet safety? That sounded boring. “I’m always careful,” she thought. “What could possibly go wrong?”
That afternoon, Sindara started searching for information about airplanes. She typed ‘how airplanes fly’ and clicked the first link she saw. Suddenly, a colorful ad popped up: “Win a free tablet! Click here and enter your name and address!”

“Wow!” Sindara whispered. “A new tablet would help me with school!” Her finger hovered over the screen… but then she remembered something her mom always said: “If it sounds too good to be true — it probably is.”
She quickly closed the ad. “Nice try, sneaky scam,” she said with a grin. “You’re not getting me!”
Next, Sindara wanted to chat with her classmate Amira to share ideas. She opened the chat app and saw a message from someone called “CoolKid123.”
“Hi Sindara,” the message read. “I’m in your school too. Can you tell me where you live? Maybe we can hang out.”
Sindara frowned. She didn’t recognize the username. “If you’re really from my school,” she typed back, “which teacher teaches us science?”
No reply came. Instead, the account disappeared. Sindara felt a little chill. “That was close,” she thought. “I’m glad I didn’t share anything.”
Later, during dinner, she told her parents about the ad and the strange message. Her mom nodded. “I’m proud of you for being cautious, Sindara. Here are three golden rules to always remember online,” she said, holding up her fingers one by one:

1. Never share personal information — like your full name, address, school, or passwords — with anyone online, even if they seem friendly.
2. Check with an adult if you’re unsure about a message, a link, or a website.
3. Think before you click. Not everything online is safe or true.
Her dad added, “And remember, Sindara, the internet is powerful — but staying safe makes you powerful too.”
The next day, Sindara shared these rules with her classmates. Some of them had seen strange messages too, and others admitted they almost clicked on suspicious links. Together, they created a colorful digital poster titled “Be Smart Online!” It showed superheroes using shields to protect their personal information and big stop signs in front of suspicious links.
Ms. Bello was so impressed. “Not only did you complete your project,” she said, “you taught everyone how to be safe explorers of the digital world.”
Sindara beamed with pride. She realized that being smart online wasn’t boring — it was brave. And just like wearing a seatbelt or looking both ways before crossing the road, it was a way to protect herself and the people she cared about.

That night, as she logged off her tablet, Sindara whispered to herself, “The internet is amazing — and I’m going to keep it that way by staying safe and smart.”
Moral of the Story:
The internet is a wonderful place to learn and connect — but staying safe is super important. Always think before you click, protect your personal information, and talk to a trusted adult when something doesn’t feel right.
