Smart Sindara Makes Eba for the First Time
It was a bright Saturday morning, and the aroma of sizzling stew filled the kitchen. Smart Sindara stood on her tiptoes, eyes wide with curiosity. Today was special—she was going to make eba for the very first time!

Mummy had said, “Every Nigerian child should know how to make at least one meal by themselves. And today, it’s your turn, Sindara.”
Smart Sindara straightened her sunflower-decorated afro and tightened the strap on her purple polka-dot apron. “I’m ready!” she said with a determined grin.
Timi and Tami, her twin brothers, peeked in from the doorway. “Do you even know how to turn garri into eba?” Timi teased.
“Yes!” Sindara huffed. “You just… mix it with water and… stir really fast. Or is it slow?” She scratched her head.
Mummy chuckled from behind the stove. “Let’s do it together, step by step.”
She handed Sindara a bowl of hot water. Steam danced into the air.
“Now pour the garri slowly. Like it’s rain falling on a sleepy afternoon,” Mummy instructed.

Sindara giggled and poured the garri gently into the bowl. The surface bubbled as the garri soaked up the water.
“Do we stir now?” Sindara asked, spoon in hand.
“Patience, chef,” Mummy said with a wink. “Let it rest for a minute.”
Sindara counted in her head. “One, two, three… twenty!” Then she grabbed the wooden spoon and stirred.
But stirring wasn’t as easy as she thought. The garri clumped together like it was forming a secret club.
“It’s so thick!” she said, arms trembling.
“Use your strength! Like you’re mixing magic,” Tami cheered.
Sindara put all her energy into it. Her arms moved in circles, sweat dotting her forehead. Slowly, the clumps softened. The eba became smooth and stretchy.
“I did it!” she shouted.
Mummy inspected it like a judge on a cooking show. She pinched a bit, rolled it, and smiled. “Perfect consistency!”

Smart Sindara beamed like she’d won a gold medal. “Wait till Daddy tastes this!”
She scooped the eba into a round ball and placed it gently on a plate. Then she added a scoop of steaming okra soup.
As everyone gathered at the table, Daddy took the first bite.
“Mmm… who made this masterpiece?” he asked.
“I did!” Sindara said proudly.
Timi raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure you didn’t get help?”
Sindara grinned. “I stirred it myself. My arms are still shaking!”
Everyone laughed, and Mummy added, “Cooking isn’t just about food. It teaches patience, courage, and learning through mess-ups.”
“But I didn’t mess up!” Sindara said.
“Not this time,” Mummy winked. “But next time, you might. And that’s okay too.”
Smart Sindara took a big bite of her eba, soaking up the spicy soup. She looked around at her family, smiling.
Today, she wasn’t just Smart Sindara. She was Chef Sindara—strong, brave, and learning one delicious step at a time.
Moral: Trying something new can feel hard at first, but with guidance, patience, and a little muscle, you can do it—and enjoy the result too!
